May Day International Workers Day Celebrations

May day or Labour Day (Wikipedia) :

Labour Day (Labor Day in the United States) is an annual holiday to
celebrate the achievements of workers. Labour Day has its origins in
the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement,
which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and
eight hours for rest. For many countries, Labour Day is synonymous
with, or linked with, International Workers’ Day, which occurs on 1

Last night’s social event at Phoenix Square was very well received by all who attended. Everyone agreed that we should do it again and it was agreed that we should allow people to vote for the next film from a small selection.

It was good to see how some of the issues raised in ‘V for Vendetta’ were still relevant in the light of the current Syrian refugee situation.

If you would like to suggest a title, preferably with a social conscience, just drop us a line.

DMU UNISON Social: V for Vendetta

We thought it would be a good idea to have a social gathering at the end of a busy term.  We have booked a room at The Phoenix on Thursday 10th December at 7pm.  We haven’t done something like this for a while and we are hoping it won’t be long before we do it again.  We want to do this as a way to introduce non-members to the union and the next time we do this it will be in a bigger setting.  We hope that members will take part and maybe bring someone along who isn’t a member.

The Phoenix are going to show V for Vendetta.  Unfortunately, there are only thirty seats.  If you would like a ticket or even two, please, get in contact.  After the closing date, at the end of play on 25th November, we will have a draw and the lucky ones will get tickets.

Small print: this time we are not putting on any food so you will have to buy your own popcorn.
